I tested a 14 year old female and on the Bender Gestalt Copy phase she drew a square/rectangle around each of the figures she drew. She did not do this on the recall phase. I could not find anything addressing this behavior. Is anyone aware of any special significance to this behavior? This aside, she scored 80 on the copy phase. Any comments would be appreciated.

In the old days we would have interpreted that as an emotional or personality factor. A need to protect the ego, a tendency towards compulsive behavior, or a need for structure.
Cognitively, I'm not so sure that it is a problem, unless she says she sees the boxes. It may still be a need for structure, or may an old habit from school.

Could you tell us anything more about her personality? I am sometimes very concrete, but maybe she was drawing the actual card edges. A concrete person might do that. Or, it could just be an affectation that a person adopted as a habit.

I would go with all of the above hypotheses for exploration, but a need for structure...boundaries would be meaningful if this is a sexually acting out person, and/or protection if this is someone who has been victimized herself.
